JP Marat - Requiem da Camera

When WCRS returns to the FM radio early in 2017, I'll launch a new program on Sunday morning entitled "Classic Marat," offering the very finest in Alternative Classic, Chorale, Opera and Jazz music. This week please enjoy "Requiem Da Camera" by Gerald Finzi. This hidden masterpiece, begun in 1924 and only finished in 1990, is his lamentation for those brave men and women, of all nations, who fell during the "Great War" (1914-1918). With social conflict all around us (Iraq, Syria, etc), this requiem (musical composition in remembrance of the dead) is as pertinent today as it was then. The opening track is JS Bach's, "The Little Fugue in G Minor."
